The Commando Parent

Commando Parents are good at being in charge and everyone knows where they stand with them. We don’t mean the bossy ones who are always on their children’s backs, constantly barking orders like, ‘Get dressed!’, ‘Tidy your room!’, ‘Do your homework!’ and ‘Go to bed!’

The best Commando Parents take control and get things done simply and easily without shouting and nagging. Some Commandos are easy to spot; they make their views clear and you know there’s no point in messing them around. Other Commandos are more subtle, though just as effective. They rarely even need to raise their voice – all it takes is a polite suggestion and everyone leaps into action. It’s an amazing skill that most of us have to learn.

If you aren’t a natural Commando Parent, you might feel you have to plead and wheedle to get anything done, or ask a hundred times and then lose your temper. Surely life would be a thousand times easier if your children did what you asked without a fuss. It is possible, and Commando Parents know how to make it happen. They stay in charge without turning into a dictator or a drill sergeant.
